Education Re-imagined: A New Era of Online Learning
A tectonic shift in education has been knocking at our doors ever since the global pandemic forced widespread experimentation around a new idea a.k.a Online Learning.
We are now entering a new era — the revolution in the Ed-Tech industry.
While one cannot discount the skepticism surrounding education through the internet, here is a list of 5 reasons why some believe this is the future:
Flexible learning provides students with full control and accountability for their learning. Rather than having to show up to a class as a requirement, they are able to decide and allocate time for their learning. Studying online teaches you vital time management skills, which makes finding a good work-study balance easier. The flexibility of online learning allows students to slowly grasp concepts and ensure full comprehension before moving forward. Again, this leads to achieving better grades.
- ‘Made to Order’ syllabus
Online education fosters personalized learning. “One-size-fits-all” education may have been the standard for decades. However, with technological advancements and greater research into online education as an effective alternative, it’s clear that personalized learning online is here to stay long-term.
- It’s an eye opener.
Online programs provide an expanded world-view as they attract students from around the world, and these students bring different perspectives from diverse cultures. You can get opportunities to work on group projects and collaborate with international classmates. Online internships provide insights into other business cultures, attitudes, and problem-solving approaches can inform your own approaches to problems and opportunities.
- Prepares students with ‘Future of Work’ skills
While increasing your knowledge and skills in your area of study, you’ll also be honing your digital skills on the most sophisticated online learning technology. As you continue to learn and study in an online world, you’ll become confident and highly productive using interactive online tools which will help you for college and future careers.
- More Cost-efficient method of learning
Taking online courses tends to be significantly cheaper. you’ll get a high-quality education at a much lower cost due to the lower overhead needed to operate these programs. Not only does tuition tend to be lower, but many additional expenses, such as transportation and printing course materials, are eliminated in an online program which is better for the environment as well. It’s a win-win.
While these advantages do warrant a thought, everything new needs to be tested. Will online education stand the test of time? Or this unplanned move to online learning – with no training, insufficient bandwidth, and little preparation –result in a poor user experience that is unconducive to sustained growth. Or better still would a new hybrid model of extracurricular and academic education emerge, with significant benefits of both worlds?
Time will tell.
